Dealing with Stress Made Easy with these 10 Quick Tips
Sometimes, dealing with stress is just hard. We all have times when we feel frazzled: worried that we haven’t done enough; we aren’t moving in the right direction or if we are doing the right things, and then stress out from our perception of how well (or not) we are doing.
In order to succeed, we need to work past these feelings and fears. We have to remember that our fears are paper tigers and they can only hold us back if we let them.
Remember: Long-term levels of high stress are a recipe for ill health. You can’t do well in your career or business if you are ill. Doubting yourself will kill your drive and motivation to work hard and achieve your dreams.
Here are some great tips to overcoming these obstacles and keep positivity, motivation and great health as part of your daily life.
1. Keep a Gratitude List
Every day, make a short list of things you are grateful for and include the reason why. Writing out a list can be therapeutic and reinforces positive thinking which problem-solving is built on.
2. Work Smarter, Not Harder
Everyone seems to be telling you to hustle, hustle, hustle. Well, that’s great and all, but only up until a point. Being successful and what success means to each person is different.
Streamline tasks by coming up with a pipeline, that takes the mental strain off of you. Delegate what tasks you can.
3. Go For a Walk in the Fresh Air
Fresh air filling your lungs will instantly make you feel calmer. A walk stretches out your muscles and gently relieves the physical tension you have been holding in your body.
4. Keep a Record of Your Accomplishments + Progress
Feeling like you never get anything done? Keep a living record of your achievements and progress. Reference it when you are feeling down to remind yourself that, actually, you are doing okay.
5. Have Something Refreshing to Eat & Drink
When you are working really hard, putting all your focus and attention into your work, often times basic human needs are neglected. When was the last time you had something good to eat or drink?
6. Cut Yourself Some Slack
Don’t beat yourself up. You may not be where you want to be, but you’ll get there. Take a step back from the situation and give yourself room to think.
7. Have a Break + Get Some Rest
Oddly enough, a core productivity booster is rest. Whether that’s getting a good night’s sleep or letting your brain cool off for a few minutes. Feel restored, replenished and more focused afterwards.
8. Breathe Deep + Meditate
Stressed, frustrated, angry. These emotions make breath quicken, becoming shallower. When this happens, our body quickly feels starved of oxygen, which only compounds how upset we feel.
Take a deep breath: in for five, hold for three, out for seven. Repeat.
Meditating also utilises deep breathing techniques but also goes a step further and helps you to see past your busy thoughts. Give a meditating app a try to get you started. I recommend Headspace (not sponsored).
9. Learn Your Stressors & Pre-empt Them
Overtime, you will come to know what is going to trigger a lot of stress for you. When you know what they are, you can plan for them, preempt them and stop them from stressing you out beforehand.
10. Talk to Someone
A problem shared is a problem halved. Talking about your problems to someone you know and trust can help you see things from a different perspective. Some issues will feel less important.
And it’s nice to know that someone cares.
