It’s the weekend, wahoo! Finally. Here are 10 simple ways to boost your mood this weekend. Good mood = everything is suddenly so much better.

So: put down your work tools as soon as you can.

Unless you’re working this weekend, in which case, I salute you! Take a break soon though, yeah?

After all, chilling out is important as it’s good for your overall health and productivity in the week to come.

1: Light up a Non-Toxic Candle

Soy-based candles are the latest trend and amazing for all sorts of reasons.

Aside from being made with essential oils for a better fragrance, they burn cleaner, too. They contain no toxins, carcinogens nor pollutants – so no health worries.

Plus, they burn for 30-50% longer than other types of candles so you are really getting your money’s worth!

Lighting up some scintillating scents sets the mood for a calmer pace of living and can be really good for letting your head know it’s time to chill.

Right now, I’m looking forward to burning my new Neom Organics candles.

2: Laze in a Warm & Cosy Room

It’s winter. It’s cold and nasty outside. Where I am, the wind bites and blasts the heat out of you like it’s got nothing better to do.

Warm yourself up by the fire, radiator or another heat producing instrument. Wrap yourself up in blankets and maybe even have a wee (translation: short) snooze. You’ve worked hard this week, you’ve earned it.

3: Treat Yourself & Sip Some Wine

Wine – fine, fine wine. Mhmmm!

Wine, when sipped slowly, can help you relax. Put your mind at ease knowing that it also has antioxidants so it’s technically good for you. As long as you don’t overindulge, that is.

If you’re not into wine, have another treat instead. Camomile tea, anyone? (Yes, please!)

4: Get Some Holiday Inspiration

Give yourself something more tangible to work toward. Holidays and experiences are the only thing you can buy which make you richer as a human being.

Where will you be heading off to next?

5: Walk Hard. Or Just Walk.

Step out of the constant stream of information and drama by going for a hike through the mountains or a forest park. Or just take a long, casual stroll through the local park.

The point is to get some fresh air and really breath deep, somewhere open and not too busy. This is a seriously great way to shed stress.

Take a trip out of town to the sea (or a large lake) if you have to!

Exercising releases those magical endorphin hormones. So not only are you relieving stress, you are guaranteed to feel in a better mood overall.

So, go grab your hiking boots!

6: Read A Fantastic Book

Escapism at its best. Reading not only helps relieve stress, but it also helps to sharpen the mind.

If you are reading a physical copy, too, then there is the added benefit of giving yourself a break from the blue light most screens produce.

Blue light is generally harmless, however, exposure to it too close to bedtime can make it harder to fall asleep.

Stuck for ideas? Try Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. It’s a gripping fantasy that’s not too taxing to read. Currently waiting for the next instalment with bated breath.

When I’m not in the mood for fiction, I flick through books such as Capture Your Style by Aimee Song or Brand Brilliance by Fiona Humberstone. I enjoy the visual nature of these books and that they are making me a savvier business person at the same time.

7: Whip Up Some Delish Food from Scratch

One cannot deny the therapeutic power of cutting things up with a knife. Especially after a long, hard and even frustrating week at work.

So chop up those onions, dice those carrots as you whip up a delicious and satisfying home-cooked meal.

Pro tip: rinse the peeled onions under cold running water to avoid stinging eyes.

Need some ideas of what to cook? Try flicking through Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients.

8: Catch Up with Family & Friends

Not one or the other, both. If possible, anyway.

Do any of the aforementioned things with these people and knock it out of the park in one fell swoop. Except reading a book for your own brain. You do kind of have to do that one by yourself.

Humans are sociable creatures at the core. So, it’s important to make time for that and make time in your life for the people that truly matter to you.

9: Sink Some Time into Something That You Love

What is your latest hobby? Building a wall on Minecraft? Or maybe you’re learning how to crochet?

Either way, make time for something that you want to do for at least 1 hour over the weekend.

Hobbies are things you doing something just for the love of it. It’s important, so don’t forget to do this.

10: Draw Like You Did When You Were 5

Whatever implements you have to draw with, take them out and draw away like nobody is watching.

Art isn’t just for “professionals” – it’s a good way for you to relax and express yourself. Draw abstract shapes, blocks of colour.

Just let your mind relax as you mindlessly let your innate creativity flow.
